GOODWOOD KARTWAYS COMPLETES THE FLORIDA WINTER TOUR WITH HEADLINE PERFORMANCES

TORONTO, ONTARIO – MARCH 11, 2008 – The Goodwood Kartways National Team headed down south this past weekend with high expectations. The results from this weekend exceed those expectations! March 8th and 9th featured intense racing action in Ocala, Florida for Rounds 5 and 6 of the Florida Winter Tour, and the whole team was poised to end the tour on a high note.

Last weeks announcement of the addition of Gabriel Chavez to the Toronto based team created a huge buzz in the karting community. Chavez, who joined the team early last week, delivered a dominating performance in the largest class of the weekend proving that the Goodwood Kartways/INTREPID package is second to none. “Gabby” won the pole for Saturday’s event and backed it up with a clean sweep of both the prefinal and final completing one of the most dominating performances of the weekend.

“We came into the weekend with a lot to prove,” stated Goodwood Kartways President Daniel Di Leo. “Considering the fact that Gabriel was being introduced to the Intrepid product and the Goodwood Team for the first time naturally meant that there was going to be a learning curve. From the first time he hit the track I liked our chances. The quality of the Intrepid package combined with Gabby’s feedback made my job easy!”

After dominating on Saturday, chances for a weekend sweep were denied when Chavez had contact making a move into the top three early in Sundays main. “It’s a shame that we didn’t have a chance for a repeat win on Sunday,” explained Chavez. “The kart was perfect and I really felt like we had the package to do it again. I made a clean move and got clipped, unfortunately that’s all it takes. I want to thank the entire Goodwood Team for all of their hard work. The whole team is very professional and everybody under the tent works together. I am really looking forward to racing with these guys again.”

Capping off the weekend, Sunday’s action featured team drivers Marco Di Leo and newcomer Luis Schiavo mixing it up in Rotax Senior. Both drivers ran comfortably in the top five nearing the end of Sunday’s prefinal when Di Leo was hit from behind knocking him out of contention. In the final, Di Leo managed to salvage a top ten result, but the story of the main was Schiavo’s spectacular drive bringing his Goowood/INTREPID package home in the runner-up position.

“This weekend was a testament to our entire team. Our drivers all performed extremely well and this gives us a lot of momentum getting ready for the 2008 season in Canada,” commented team manager Marco Di Leo. “Now all we need is for the snow to melt!”
